There has been a doctor’s surgery on Upper Chorlton Road since the early part of the twentieth century. The practice was originally run from a house opposite our present premises, and the very first doctor used to do his rounds on a horse and carriage! In 1970, a move was made to 240 Upper Chorlton Road. Despite an extension to that property in 1990, it became obvious that we were rapidly running out of space.
Fortunately, the property at 171 Upper Chorlton Road was put on the market, and after its purchase by the partners and appropriate alterations, the move was made in April 1998. Some research by one of our patients revealed that the house used to be a family home and was called Ashville – hence the name ” Ashville Surgery”.
There are now eleven doctors, and two practice nurses, a practice manager and a large team of supporting staff. We all hope that the traditional and friendly nature of our practice will continue to be preserved, but at the same time providing up-to-date and efficient medical care and an ever-widening range of general medical services from a large and pleasant building.
